International and domestic inbound tourism in India is on an upswing. Foreign exchange earnings are Rs 50000 crore and the domestic tourism another Rs 600 crore.
The consequences due to increased tourism are a tremendous shortage of Hotel rooms. This has led to highest ever activity of 40 International Hotel companies setting up shop in India to build their branded hotels. India is where the hotel industry of the world is headed for the next five to ten years. Each multinational Hotel company brings in its own service standards, denoting quality and value for money for its customers.
Hotels and restaurants are under pressure to give greater “international experience“ and “value to their clients in choice of menu, service and general look and feel.
International and national fund companies and business houses are investing in the Indian Hospitality sector. Existing Indian hotel groups are adding hotel properties each year.
Hospitality industry comprises of Five star, Budget and Heritage hotels, Resorts and clubs and restaurants. Number of multinational restaurant companies have either established businesses in India or are in the process of doing so. The industry suffers from the problem of 'plenty'. The scenario reflects in tremendous career opportunities. However there is a tremendous shortage of trained staff. Around 54,000 employees would be required in the premium hotel segment alone.
