CEED exam pattern 2020 gives candidates an idea of the type of questions, marking system and other details about the exam. CEED 2020 is an entrance exam conducted every year to help interested candidates get admission in Master's in Design (M.Des) course at some of India's top institutes. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay conducts the Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) every year. On successfully cracking the entrance exams, candidates will be able to get admission to IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Hyderabad and IISc Bangalore.

CEED 2020 will be a computer-based test (CBT) where candidates will be asked questions in two parts. As per CEED exam pattern 2020, Part A will have 45 objective type questions of 100 marks while Part B will have 8 descriptive answer type questions of 100 marks. Candidates will get 3 hours where Part A will be of one hour and Part B will be of two hours duration. The main objective of Part A is to check visual and spatial ability, environmental and social awareness, analytical and logical reasoning. Questions in Part B will help the exam conducting authorities check candidates’ design, drawing and writing skills. In order to qualify in CEED exam 2020, candidates need to attempt both the parts and pass in them. CEED Exam Pattern 2020 – Detailed Information

Parts: CEED 2020 exam will be divided into two parts where Part A will have objective type questions categorized in three sections. Part B will have 8 questions on subjective and drawing skills. Answer sheets of Part B questions papers will be checked only of those candidates who qualify in Part A test.

Examination Mode: CEED 2020 exam will be both computer-based and pen-paper based exam. Part A will be a computer-based test while for Part B candidates will have to write answers on the answer books provided to them in the examination hall.

Exam Duration: CEED 2020 will be of 3 hours. Part A will be for one hour from 10.00 am to 11.00 am and Part B will be of two hours from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm. Candidates will not get any break between two exams. However, they will be allowed to start Part B only when they complete Part A.

Type of Questions: As per CEED exam pattern 2020, Part A will have three sections while Part B will have just subjective questions.

Part ‘A’ Sections:

• Section I: Candidates will be asked Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions in this section. To answer these questions, candidates will have to enter a number by using the virtual keyword on the monitor.
• Section II: Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) will be asked in this section where every question will have four choices with one or more correct answer.
• Section III: In this section, candidates will be asked 35 multiple choice questions (MCQs). Every question will have four choices with just one right answer.

CEED Exam Patter 2020 – Marking System

Part A:

Marks scored in Part A will help exam conducting authorities to shortlist the candidates. Cut-off percentage for candidates from OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD categories will be different from the applicants from general category. For OBC-NCL is will be 90% of the open category while for remaining categories it will be 50% of the Open Category.

Part B:

In part B candidates will get marks on the basis of the accuracy of their answers and drawing skills. However, Part B will be evaluated manually only for the candidates who are shortlisted from Part A test.

Final CEED 2020 score will have 25% weightage from Part A and 75% from Part B. CEED result 2020 will be updated by following the same formula. Candidates will be able to check CEED result 2020 on March 05, 2020.

Language and Creativity

This section will have passages in the English language to check candidates' ability to think creatively, ability to distinguish and think out of the box.

Environmental and Social Awareness

As clear from the name, this section covers questions from General Awareness. It is to check awareness of the candidates on environmental factors like climate, water, pollution, weather etc. Apart from this, the objective is also to check how well candidates understand impact of these factors on the design of products, images, infrastructure etc. History of art, sculpture, and literature is also an integral part of this section.

Design thinking and Problem Solving

This section aims at checking the ability to understand the context, users and constraints and select the most appropriate solution for a given design problem.

Visualization and Spatial Ability

To prepare for this section, candidates will have to gain knowledge of pictorial and diagrammatic topics to understand transformation and manipulation of 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.

Analytical and Logical Reasoning

Ability to analyse information logically and choose the most appropriat solutions is what checked in this section. Apart from this, it also includes the ability to weigh opinions, arguments or solutions against appropriate criteria, structured thinking to deduce from a short passage, which of a number of statements is the most accurate response to a posed question.

Observation and Design Sensitivity

Candidates' ability to find hidden properties in everyday life and think critically is judged in this section.

Creativity

This section tests how candidates can come up with diverse and unique solutions by thinking out of the box in different situations.

Analytical and Problem Solving Skills

Candidates' ability to understand the user, knowledge of properties of the material and their use in design as well as ability to create characters plots and stories are checked in this section.

Drawing

Apart from having good concept knowledge, the candidates also need to have outstanding design skills to become a designer. This is the objective of this section where candidate's ability to draw products, scenes and people while maintaining a right balance of line, composition, perspective and shading are checked.
