 Most colleges across Delhi University helps their students go through ‘the orientation.’ “Orientation is the first step towards college life - it briefs freshers on various aspects of the college.

 Orientation at Gargi College is an attempt to acquaint students with the various facilities available and the societies and this year it’s scheduled for July 21, 10am onwards. The venue will be the newly constructed auditorium. The college orientation would be followed by departmental orientations to familiarise students with their courses and respective teachers,” says Varsha Chaudhary, vice president student union, Gargi College.

 Orientation also provides a chance to students to informally engage in conversation with teachers, department heads and seniors to clarify any doubts they might have. From academics to extracurricular activities, orientation aims to inform you about the subject you will explore in the next three years and provides you with a snapshot of the various activities of your college. “I felt at home on the very first day of college but it was only during the orientation it fully struck me that I was now in ‘L-S-R’. The cultural programme put up for us showcased the finest performers from the college and they simply blew us away. Each performance ended with the audience roaring for an encore. The energy in that packed auditorium was palpable. I remember feeling quite bedazzled by the ‘magic of LSR’ that day,” recollects Vincy Davis, a third-year student. So, if it is all about ‘song and dance’, do you really need to attend? Absolutely, says Geetesh Nirban, media coordinator, Kamala Nehru College. “We encourage all our students to be there for the orientation ceremony. It is essential for them to understand what awaits them in the next three years, and how they can make the most of their time with us,”he adds. Seniors, too, advise you to not just be there, but reach the venue on time. “Don't think you can walk in leisurely anytime. The programme generally starts around 10am, so you must reach at least 15 minutes early.

Don’t miss this opportunity at any cost, as it gives you the platform to start your three years with a bang. Talk as much as you can, introduce yourself to those you meet.
