The premiere Delhi University has announced that it will conduct centralized admissions for B.A (Honours) Journalism for the academic session 2011 - -2012 for the first time in the history of all universities in India in this course.  The test will be held on June 19 for journalism courses offered in all five colleges of DU – Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, Kamla Nehru College, Kalindi College,  Maharaja Agrasen College and Lady Shri Ram College. However, the Combined Journalism Entrance Test (C-JET) will be conducted across 10 colleges as DU is expecting nearly 5000 applications this year.

The forms for the Combined Journalism Entrance Test (C-JET) will be made available online from May 20 to June 5. The test in its first year will be conducted by Maharaja Agrasen College.

The given colleges have decided to allot a weightage of 50% to the score of the entrance test, 35% to marks in Class 12 and 15% to the personal interview that will be conducted. The results for the C-JET will be declared on June 29 and the interviews will be conducted between July 2 and 8, in all likelihood.

Eligibility

General category candidates should have at least 70% marks in four subjects in Class 12 to be eligible for the test and at least 60% in English. For reserved categories, the minimum marks in the best of four subjects should be 65%.

Admission Procedure

Compared to last year, the admission procedure for this year will be conducted online as the number of application is estimated to be way above than last year (3000). Given the number of applications, the number of seats available in total (including all the five colleges) is just 181.

The forms can be filled in at journalismdu.admissionhelp.com, which will be operational from May 20. In the new centralised online application process, applicants will be given a login id on registration. The applicants can use this id to return to their applications and fill the application form at their pace (but before the last date). In case they make a mistake, they can log in again and correct it.

The application fee can also be submitted online if the applicant has a credit or debit card. Otherwise the fee can be submitted at branches of Axis Bank, the details of which will be published in the website. Maharaja Agrasen College is the nodal college for conducting the test.

The entrance test will have multiple choice questions with answers on an OMR sheet to test the general knowledge of the students. There will also be essay-type questions to test the writing skills through book and film reviews, critical analysis of contemporary media and commentary on contemporary issues.

Candidates will be expected to have good communication skills as well as interest in writing in English to be suitable for the course. The duration of the test will be two hours and thirty minutes.
