The Delhi University has released its fifth cut-off list for admission to the various undergraduate courses for the academic session 2013-14.

With the announcement of the list, it looks like prayers of several humanities and commerce aspirants have been answered. Much to the relief of these students, the fifth list has opened admission doors for them.

Moreover, students who had applied for programmes out of their choice range are now considering withdrawing their applications and applying for admissions again.

“I took admission in the BA Programme course in SGTB Khalsa College under the third list because I didn’t want to wait. But I really wanted to do a course in either history or political science. I will file an application of withdrawal from the college and apply for admission again,” said Mukul Mehta, an aspirant.

Officials at Ramjas College, which is one of the few colleges to reopen admissions for mainstream courses such as B.Com (Hons.) and History (Hons.), said that while History (Hons.) did see a few admissions, commerce courses still remained more sought after.

Rajendra Prasad, principal, Hansraj College, said, “We had five withdrawals in history, so we decided to open it up again for general category students after maintaining the cut-off we had in the second list.”

Despite this window of opportunity, however, students continued to make a beeline for the B.Com (Hons) course.

VCS Rao, media coordinator, Sri Venkateswara College, said, “We closed admission under the fourth list after admitting a total of 42 students against 47 vacancies. On Tuesday, we admitted a total of eight students in B.Com (Hons.) and 10 students in B.Com (Programme).”
