Eligibility Criteria and Application Fee of Top MBA Exams

Today, the top B-Schools in India offer specialisation in various management disciplines. They offer excellent education and learning environment, as well as attract many recruiters that offer exciting packages. These top schools either conduct their own entrance exams or are part of a national level common entrance exam. Read on to know more about some of the top MBA exams conducted in India every year.

MBA Exams in India:

Common Admission Test (CAT)

The Common Admission Test or CAT as it’s popularly known is the biggest MBA exam conducted in India. Organised by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) on a rotation basis, CAT is the gateway for admission to various management programmes that IIMs as well as other top business schools across the country offer.

CAT Eligibility Criteria:

In order to be eligible to appear for CAT, a candidate should hold a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification recognised by MHRD/AICTE/UPSC with at least 50% aggregate marks (45% in the case of reserved category). Candidates who are in their final year of bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply.

CAT Application Fee:

The application fee for general category and OBC category candidates is INR 1600.
The application fee for SC, ST and Person with Disability category candidates is INR 800.
The application fee has to be paid via online mode on the official website of CAT. It can be paid via debit/credit card or net banking.

Management Aptitude Test (MAT)

The Management Aptitude Test or MAT is conducted four times in a year: February, May, September and December. It is organised by the All India Management Association (AIMA). MAT aspirants can seek admissions in over 600 B-Schools in India offering various business management programmes.

MAT Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates who wish to appear for the MAT exam must hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university. Students studying in their final year of bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply for MAT.

MAT Application Fee:

The application fee for the MAT exam is INR 1200. It can be paid in more than one ways:

  • Candidates can pay on the official website of AIMA via credit or debit card.
  • They can pay via net banking on the official portal of AIMA-MAT.
  • Candidates can obtain a crossed Demand Draft of INR 1200 in favour of 'All India Management Association' payable at New Delhi from any bank.
  • They can purchase the OMR registration form by paying the amount of INR 1200 at AIMA, New Delhi.

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT)

XAT is conducted every year by XLRI, Jamshedpur to select candidates for their management and other allied programmes. Apart from XLRI, over 140 other business schools in India use the XAT scores for admissions.

XAT Eligibility Criteria:

XAT aspirants must have a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university. Students who are in their final year of bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply for XAT.

XAT Application Fee:

The application fee for the XAT exam is INR 1600. If a candidate wants to opt for the XLRI programs, s/he needs to pay INR 300 per course.
If a candidate pays the application fee after the last date of submission, s/he will have to pay INR 2000 for the XAT exam and INR 500 per course for the XLRI programs.

Symbiosis National Aptitude Test (SNAP)

Symbiosis National Aptitude Test or SNAP as it’s commonly known is a management exam organised by the Symbiosis International University (SIU), Pune for admissions to management courses offered by SIU and its affiliated institutions.

SNAP Eligibility Criteria:

In order to appear for the SNAP exam, a candidate must have a bachelor's degree in any stream or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks, which is 40% in the case of reserved category. NRI/FN/OCI candidates are also eligible to apply for the examination.

Those who have obtained their degrees from a foreign university must produce an equivalent certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

SNAP Application Fee:

Candidates will have to pay an amount of INR 1500 to appear for the SNAP exam. They can pay via any of the following modes:

  • Debit card or Credit card
  • Net Banking
  • Cash – Print Indian Bank or Axis Bank challan from the website and pay at the nearest bank in your city
  • Demand Draft – Take DD of INR 1500 from any nationalised bank in favour of “Symbiosis Test Secretariat” payable at Pune.

Narsee Monjee Aptitude Test (NMAT)

Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) conducts Narsee Monjee Aptitude Test or NMAT for admissions to NMIMS and affiliated colleges offering various management programmes. NMAT is conducted in a 75-day window where the candidate can choose his/her own date and time as per convenience.

NMAT Eligibility Criteria:

NMAT aspirants should have completed their bachelor’s degree (10+2+3) or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university with minimum 50% marks in the first attempt. Students in the final year of their bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply.

NMAT Application Fee:

The NMAT application fee can be paid by credit card, debit card, net banking and demand draft. The application fee is as follows:

Common Management Admission Test (CMAT)

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) conducts Common Management Admission Test or CMAT for admissions to any of the AICTE approved colleges, institutes and universities.

CMAT Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates who wish to appear for the CMAT exam must be an Indian Citizen and hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university. Students in their final year of bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply for CMAT.

CMAT Application Fee:

For general category candidates, the application fee is INR 1400 + bank charges. For female candidates and the reserved category candidates, the fee is INR 700 + bank charges. The fee can be paid via online mode through debit/credit card or net banking. It can also be paid by cash at an SBI bank near you. They will have to produce the challan obtained from the website at the cash counter in the SBI bank.
