The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), including  IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee jointly conduct Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) Exam every year.

It primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and technology. 2014 GATE Exam will be conducted between February 1 and March 2, 2014.

The GATE score is used for admissions to various post-graduate programmes (eg. M.E., M. Tech, direct Ph.D.) in Indian higher education institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies.

The score may also be used by Public sector units for employment screening purposes.

How to apply for GATE 2014:

All candidates have to apply via ONLINE only through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).

• Candidates have to register for GATE 2014 first by providing a valid Email ID and a currently in use mobile number along with a password

• The login Id for GATE 2014 will be be mailed to the candidates.

• Personal Particulars of the candidate has to be entered.

• Scanned photograph and signature as per specifications have to be uploaded.

• GATE 2014 Application fee to be paid online or through Challan

• Download and print the GATE 2014 Online Application after submission

Send the printout of the GATE 2014 Online Application form after affixing a photograph and signing in the specified place along with the requiste Documents to the zonal centre as per the address slip printed along with the application.

Admit Card:

The Admit Card can only be downloaded from the zonal GATE websites from December 18, 2013. Admit Cards will NOT be sent by post/email. Bring a print-out of the downloaded Admit Card to the Test Centre along with the original and valid photo identification (NO photocopy / scanned copy/NOT expired).

What’s New in 2014 GATE Exam:

• A new paper "Ecology and Evolution" is introduced in GATE 2014

• Examinations for all the 22 papers will be conducted by an ONLINE Computer Based Test (CBT). The online examination paper will contain some questions for which numerical answers must be keyed in by the candidate using the virtual keypad. Rest of the questions shall be of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type.

• Examination for some of the papers in GATE 2014 will be held in multiple sessions.
