Home > Articles > GATE and NET May Be Conducted Under One Centralized Body from 2014!
On March 25th the government unveils its plans for conducting national level tests such as the NET (National Eligibility Test) and GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) under a centralized body.
The plan will be under speculation of the Union Cabinet for approval after being discussed at the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) that took place on April 2nd 2013.
As per M M Pallam Raju, the Human Resource Development Minister, the national testing agency, would prepare question papers, conduct examinations and create a databank.
However, membership and joining of the bodies would not be mandatory.
Ashok Thakur, Higher Education secretary, disclosed that the body could be made operational from next year and may be used to conduct GATE and NET examinations. According to the secretary, once the process of testing has been computerized, tests can be held many times a year.
Secretary also revealed an unanimous decision on the proposal and talks with CBSE, GATE management, as well as testing agencies like Prometric, has already begun.
