GGSIPU to Regularise its Fee Structure for the Student’s Benefit

One of India’s leading universities, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has decided to regularize its fee structure across all its institutes following discrepancy in the fees charged to students. Turns out, that private colleges used to allegedly charge students taking admission a whole lot of money on the pretext of library charges, maintenance charges etc, resulting in students shelling out a bomb for their education.

To streamline this discrepancy, GGSIPU has issued a fixed fee structure for the 2012-13 admission session as per its new admission policy. This implementation will come into effect for its MBA course for 2012 – 2013, for which, the sale of prospectus began on 2 December, 2011.
According to the new admission policy, the colleges will have to declare the fees in their profiles and will not be allowed to charge anything over and above what has been specified, besides the fee specified in the university prospectus, which will include the fee structure for each course to be offered by the university and its affiliated colleges. At present, GGSIPU has103 affiliated colleges.

The Joint Registrar, Academics, GGSIPU ascertained, "In the coming admission session, students will not have to face any uncertainty as the university prospectuses will have complete details of fees. The colleges can't charge anything extra apart from the specified fee, Rs 1,000 student activity fee and one time refundable fee of Rs 5,000. The fee structure is based on the Delhi government's State Fee Committee's decision."

Besides this good news, another beneficial thing superseding this ruling is that the actual fee structure will vary depending on the category of the college. This means that according to the State Fee Committee (SFC) constituted in 2008, colleges under GGSIPU are divided into four categories, namely 'A+', 'A', 'B' and 'C', which in turn means that fees will be much lower in  colleges rated B and C, as compared to A+ and A.

Even though the fee structure of SFC has been in place since 2009-10, it had not been followed by these colleges. The strict decision was taken following various complaints of anomaly by students to the university administration.
