NMAT is the entrance test for admission to various MBA programmes at the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai. As you would already know, NMAT 2014 is being held in a window period of almost one and a half month from 5th October to 18th December 2013 with a choice of two retakes for admission to various courses of NMIMS for the academic session 2014-16.
Before trying to figure out how to crack NMAT, it is crucial to understand the pattern of the exam and know the areas in which your skills will be tested.
NMAT is a computer-based, 2 hour, objective-type multiple-choice test. (There will be no descriptive type questions).
It consists of the following sections:
Sr. No. |
Section |
No. of Questions |
Time in Minutes |
1 |
Language Skills |
32 |
22 |
2 |
Quantitative Skills |
48 |
60 |
3 |
Logical Reasoning |
40 |
38 |
|
Total |
120 |
120 |
It is important to perform well as compared to other candidates in each of these 3 sections since the score of each section & the overall score will be used to shortlist you for the next stage of the selection process. There is NO negative marking in NMAT.
Now comes the important part: How to crack this exam?
First we’ll tell you the good part: NMAT is an easy exam if you compare it with entrance exams like CAT, XAT etc. But the catch in this exam is your speed coupled with accuracy.
Some tips for you:
It’s all about SPEED!
Unlike an upper limit when you’re on the road, there is no limit to your speed here. The faster you can attempt questions, the better. Since there is no negative marking in NMAT, you can attempt as many questions as you can, if not all.
ACCURACY matters too!
What is the point of attempting the maximum number of questions if most of them turn out to be wrong? Try to strike a balance between speed & accuracy. Just because there is no negative marking, don’t go marking random answers!
There’s nothing like PRACTICE!
“Practice makes a man perfect”, so goes the clichéd saying. But it’s clichéd because it’s true! And nothing can prepare you better for NMAT 2014 than practicing as many sample tests as possible! It would be ideal if you join a test series of renowned coaching centres like IMS, Career Launcher, TIME etc. or practice free online mock tests.
