MBA aspirants who took XAT 2012 on 8th Jan 2012 were a content lot. The paper was not too easy nor too difficult. XAT 2012 was a balanced paper. Most of the questions were doable but not exactly easy.There were some changes in the paper as compared with the previous years.

How was XAT 2012 different?

1. Total number of questions reduced to 85. ( from 101 questions in XAT 2011) 
2. Answers had to be marked on the OMR sheet with a pen instead of a pencil.
3. There weren't any Analytical Reasoning questions in the Decision Making section. This section took the longest to solve in general.

The break-up of XAT 2012 questions:

1. The duration of the exam was 120 minutes (2 hours).
2. Most of the questions were for 1 mark with a few for 1.5 & 2 marks.
3. The essay question had 2 statements. You had to select one & justify it with examples:

•     Poverty is a big menace in India. Due to its complexity and magnitude, most of the government initiatives fail.
•     Poverty is a consequence of failure of government policies due to the fact that governments do not target the root causes.

The XAT 2012 essay topics were easy. They could have been handled easily with ample examples. Overall, XAT 2012 was not as tough as it has been in the previous years, but it was nevertheless a tough one to crack!
