Faced with immense protests from the IIT faculty, Mr Kapil Sibal met the IIT council today. This meeting was convened after two IITs - Kanpur and Delhi - rejected his 'one nation, one test' formula and decided to hold their own test.
Sources now say that a compromise has been reached and the class12 board exam marks will not be considered for entering into the Indian Insitutes of Technology (IITs). This class 12 state board marks, has been the main bone of contention between the IIT senate and Mr Sibal. The proposal floated by Mr Sibal had suggested that class 12 marks will be given equal weightage. The IITs had opposed it saying different states had different systems of marking students so it would be incorrect to consider those marks for entry into to the IITs.
The HRD Ministry, in statement released last week, said this "special" meeting has been called to address the "uncertainty faced by the student community.
More details awaited. Keep watching this space for more updates.
