With several areas of specialisation, engineers have always been in great demand. With the boom in commercialisation and global economy, the demand will be much higher in the coming years. Engineering offers tremendous scope for employment in the private sector as well as public sector. Engineering as a stream has become highly specialised today and extends its branches catering to industries, technology and business.

Engineering is one of things that people will always need. Engineers held 1.6 million jobs in 2008. The highest number of these jobs was in civil engineering, followed by mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical engineering and electronic engineering, not including computer engineering.
Employment in the engineering field is expected o grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through 2020, although outlook will vary by branch.include:

Programme Details and Eligibility
 

To become an engineer you need to have

  • Bachelor’s in Techology (B.Tech) degree or Bachlelor’s in Engineering (B.E) degree. A bachelor’s programme is of four years’ duration.
  • To specialise further, aspirants can opt for a master’s degree which could be M.E or M.Tech, which is for two years. These days, there is an option for integrated M.Tech course of five years, with which a student can earn two degrees - B.Tech and M.Tech.
     

  If you are interested in this, you should have completed your higher secondary with subjects like physics, chemistry and mathematics. Admission to the engineering colleges is based upon entrance exams at all India level or state level.
