There is one more twist in the tale of JEE, now, Maharashtra state government has decided to give 50% weightage to class 12th marks for admission to undergraduate engineering courses instead of 20% as decided by the IIT council earlier this year.


The decision has been taken by the state cabinet in a meeting held earlier this week. The Maharashtra state will be a part of new Joint Entrance Exam from 2014-15 academic session. Hence, the new system will be applicable from next academic session onwards in the state of Maharashtra.


The state government will be asking the Indian Statistical Institute to prepare a system in order to normalize the marks scored in class 12th. The merit will be prepared by giving 50-50 percent weightage to JEE (Main) and class 12th marks.


Students are glad to know that only Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) marks will be counted for 50% weightage from class 12th. However, government’s decision on upgrading the class 12th syllabus to come at par with JEE would mean yet another curriculum revision even before the latest one which was made to bring the syllabus at par with CBSE.
