Here’s an important piece of information for students gearing up to take the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in Karnataka in May for admission to undergraduate medical courses in the academic session 2013-14.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to conduct the national level medical exam in the state on 18th May, 2013 instead of 5th May, 2013.
The Karnataka government had requested the HRD ministry to postpone the exam because it was clashing with the state polls date.
"Therefore, to avoid any inconvenience to the candidates and public in Karnataka, it has been decided by the Central Board of Secondary Education with the approval of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to postpone the date of conduct of NEET-UG 2013 in Karnataka only to 18th May, 2013 Saturday," said the CBSE press release.
The board also clarified that the examination for admission to MBBS and BDS courses will be conducted on May 5 itself in all other states/UTs and abroad.
About 40,000 students are appearing for the test in the state. The exam will be carried out across 7 centres in 5 cities - Bangalore, Belgaum, Mangalore, Gulbarga and Davangere.
Around 15,000 staff would be deployed for invigilation and other exam-related duties.
