NMAT 2013 Pattern Unchanged, GD to be Replaced by Case Study

Dr. Rajan Saxena, the Vice Chancellor of NMIMS has confirmed to Campuswalkin that there would not be any major changes in the examination pattern of NMAT 2013. The exam pattern for NMAT 2013 would be along the lines of NMAT 2012.

However, the post-NMAT admission procedure has been tweaked a little by NMIMS this year. The candidates short-listed after NMAT 2013 would not have to take part in a Group Discussion (GD) like the previous years. Instead, the short-listed students would have to discuss a case.

NMAT 2013 Exam Pattern

This would be the pattern for NMAT 2013 based on the NMAT 2012 exam:

NMAT is usually an objective type multiple-choice test. (There will be no descriptive type questions).

NMAT-2013 would be a 2 hour test containing multiple choice questions. There will be a 2 minutes NDA (non-disclosure agreement), 10 minutes Tutorial and 3 minutes Section ordering screen.

NMAT-2013 would have three sections – Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning. The three sections of NMAT-2013 are individually timed and candidates need to answer the sections and review the questions of that section within the allotted section time. Once the candidate moves out of a section, there is no possibility of returning to that section for attempting or reviewing the questions.

The candidate should note that it is important for them to perform well relative to other candidates in each of the 3 sections of the test as the score of each section and the overall score will be used to shortlist the candidate for the second stage of the selection process as well as in the final ranking. Please note that there will be no negative marking.

There would be a ten minute tutorial before the exam begins, that would give you an outline of the screens and features that you will encounter during the exam. You can also try out the functionalities of the review screen using the slides of the tutorial. Since time taken up during the tutorial does not get added to the exam time, you should make use of this time to go through the tutorial properly.

If you are not satisfied by your NMAT score in the first attempt you may schedule for Re-take NMAT by visiting www.pearsonvue.com/nmims and logging in with the allotted username and password. In case you have made more than one attempt, the best score which is the total score & its respective sectional score, which makes you eligible as per the cut offs which will be declared by NMIMS will be considered for short listing for subsequent process. (Cut off means sectional as well as total score). The scores of all the attempts taken by you will be declared on the NMIMS website.

NMIMS Group Discussion to be Replaced by Case Study

According to Dr. Rajan Saxena, the objective of replacing the Group Discussion with a case-study as part of the post-NMAT selection process is to assess the following skills in the students:

a) Analytical skills
b) Problem solving skills
c) Group decision making skills
d) Comfort with numbers
e) Leadership and communication skills

After the case discussion, students would undergo a “personal interview” round with an interview panel consisting of faculty, industry executives and NMIMS alumni.

Registrations for NMAT 2013 began on 11 July 2012. According to Dr. Saxena, the registrations are already 20% more on the 22nd day of the registrations as compared to the year 2012. The last date to register for NMAT 2013 is 25 September 2012.
