Good news for those who are tired of running around giving dozens of bank exams. The Indian Banks Association has decided to launch a Common All India Entrance Test (CET) from this year (2011). This move is an attempt to simplify bank recruitment procedures in all the public sector banks (PSBs) in India.
This CET will mainly be for clerical staff and entry-point officers (Probationary officers, Specialist Officers - Law Officers, EDP Officers, Tech. and Management Executives. Around 20 public sector banks have joined this initiative, although the SBI group has its own recruitment process and will continue with it.
Currently the Public Sector Banks take almost 1 year to recruit the candidates, from the time the advertisement comes out till the interview and the final results are declared. With the introduction of this CET, this process will take only one-third the time and will also be a relief to all the candidates who have to keep tab of at least half a dozen bank exam dates.
The recruitment process will be managed by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) on behalf of the 20 PSBs. IBPS will declare the results of the exam and give a scorecard to the candidates which will be valid for up to 1.5 years. Once the validity period of the scorecard expires, the candidate will have to reappear for the exam. Once a candidate passes the common entrance exam, all that he or she has to do is to respond to an individual bank's advertisement and appear for its interview.
