Top 10 Preparation Tips for Management Exams

Raunika Sood updated on : 27 Sep, 2020 12

With popular management entrance exams like CAT, MAT, XAT, SNAP, etc. just around the corner, the time to start preparing seriously is now!

At this point in time, it is imperative that students are guided in the right direction to clear the entrance exams with flying colours. Campuswalkin.com has therefore compiled a few pointers for students to consider when making a preparation strategy.

Some students may feel that CAT 2020  preparation tips should be different from preparation tips for other exams like XAT, MAT, SNAP, etc, However, the following pointers are applicable to all the management entrance exams conducted in India.

You may go through and include them as part of your preparation plan:

1) Go through the Syllabus: This is the time when you must go through the syllabus and start preparing for all the topics one by one. Doing so will ensure that you don't leave any topic untouched.

2) Focus on quality not on quantity: Always remember that you should focus on the depth of the topics. Make sure whatever part of the syllabus you cover is thoroughly studied by you in order to be confident about the question while appearing for the exam. Quantity does not matter. You must have studied all the topics, but you might be not good at answering each of the them the right way.

3) Prepare well for GD/PI: Make sure you are well aware of whatever is taking place around you (general knowledge/general awareness). You can get any topic for your group discussion. Confidence pays off. Be confident and give it your best. Questions like "Why do you want to do MBA?" , "Why should you get admission to our college/institute" should be well rehearsed.

4) Join preparatory sites: You can join online preparatory sites as they help a student to get accustomed to the computer based format as most of the tests these days are online.

5) Take as many mock tests as you can: While preparing for CAT, MAT, XATCMAT etc. try and attempt as many mock tests and sample papers you can. This will not only give you an idea of what your final examination paper would be like, but it will also help you increase your speed and make you efficient. The toppers usually advice students that they should not skip mock tests.

6) Time Management: It is essential that you manage your time well. Just incase you get stuck on one question, do not spend more than 7-10 minutes. By doing this you will loose time and you will not be able to solve all the question in the respective time given to you. Remember, that you can always come back to the question if it is unanswered. You may also practice as many mock tests as possible, as this will help improve your time management skills.

7) Know the reference books well in advance: You should be well aware of the books, reference material for each test (CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT etc). Take help of teachers, professors, tutors.

8) Self-Study: Depend on self study for the last minute, do not join any crash courses, you can always attempt mock tests/sample tests at home. Self study is the best.

9) Take proper rest: Do not exert yourself atlest two days before the exam. Avoid attending social functions, parties etc. This might just be a distraction for you. Have proper meals, do not skip any meal.

10) Take it easy: Be positive, have faith in yourself and be confident enough that you will make it through and clear the exam with flying colours. It is just another test/ exam that you are going to give. It is not the end of the world.
