Regular Studies is the Key to Crack CAT 2013

If you wish to score high in Common Admission Test 2013 (CAT 2013), then regular revision is the way to go!

The conclusion was drawn from a small survey where we asked CAT aspirants about their preparation strategy and MBA students about the secret behind their success in CAT exams.

CAT preparation requires regular studies. One does not need to slog hours on end or burn the midnight lamp, but 3-4 hours of regular studies would do just fine. I somehow lacked in the regularity part,” admits 23-year-old working professional Sachin Saxena, who could not clear CAT in his first attempt in 2011. He is now preparing to take CAT this year.

Like Sachin, there are many other candidates who’ve realized that the most important cornerstone of preparation for an exam like CAT is not just a firm grip on the test content, but also catching up on the studies regularly.

CAT is not any college semester exam that requires preparation over the weekend or during the last 10 days. In fact, a minimum of 3 to 9 months of regular preparation is essential.

“If an aspirant has decided to devote four hours a day then he/she must adhere to it. The mistake that students often do is that they go easy during the week and study for twelve hours over the weekend. This does not work!” suggests MBA expert Sidharth Balakrishna, an alumnus of IIM Calcutta.

Rohan Arora, a student of IMT, Ghaziabad, says, “My preparation involved regular revision and taking mock tests. A person who is able to study regularly and take mock tests can learn many concepts which can help him/her sail through CAT easily. I did the same. It really helped me.”

Deepak Raj Singh, a student of National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR), says, “During the preparation of CAT, I made it a point to study 1 hour daily, so as to keep in touch with the course. After finishing my coaching class every day I used to revise what was taught on that particular day. Therefore, by keeping myself revised, in the end there was no sudden pressure of preparing.”

Kaustubh Bijalwan, who is preparing to take CAT for the third time after not getting the desired percentile in the previous two attempts, says taking mock tests on a daily basis is helping him clear his concepts.

“I regularly give sectional tests to improve my understanding of specific concepts. I study about 2 hours a day on weekdays. On weekends I study up to 5 hours,” says Bijalwan, who has done his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Ropar.
