Syllabus & exam pattern for OPENMAT 2013

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has begun with the admission process of its management programmes. Students are required to take the OPENMAT exam to apply for the seven management programmes offered by IGNOU. OPENMAT is conducted twice in a year, usually in the months of February and August. The 2013 OPENMAT entrance exam will be held on August 18, 2013 and the corresponding February OPENMAT entrance exam will be held on February 9, 2014.

Lakhs of students take the OPENMAT every year. Management programmes offered by IGNOU are most popular with working professionals and students alike. Catering to its mass application and upholding the educational standards, the syllabus and exam pattern for OPENMAT is similar to other MBA entrance examinations in India.

Let’s look at the syllabus of the OPENMAT entrance exam paper:

  • General Awareness: Comprises of general knowledge (newspapers, magazines, current affair books).
  • English Language: comprises of reading comprehension including passages, poems, synonyms, antonyms, correct grammar usage etc.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: Comprises of Arithmetic, Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry and Statistics.
  • Reasoning: Comprises of coding & decoding, data interpretation, strong and weak arguments.

2013 – 2014 OPENMAT exam pattern

OPENMAT is a single level examination that has to be completed in 3 hours. Total number of questions for OPENMAT exam is 200. The break-up of the OPENMAT question paper:

General Awareness

English Language

Quantitative Aptitude

Reasoning

How is the marking of OPENMAT carried out?

  • Every correct answer: 1 mark
  • Negative marking: NIL
  • Exam in test booklet format with 200 multiple choice questions and a specifically designed OMR response sheet
  • In case they find that none of the four alternatives is correct, they have to mark 'O'

Note: The cut-off mark for OPOENMAT is decided by IGNOU. However, the minimum marks required to get admission to the management programmes offered by IGNOU, the student has to score at least 60% - 70%.
