UCEED or Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination For Design is a national-level entrance exam for admission to Bachelor of Design programme (B.Des.) offered at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati and IIITDM Jabalpur. It is conducted every year by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in 19 cities across India. Candidates can apply for UCEED 2020 by filling the online application form. The online application process for UCEED 2020 exam is expected to start in October 2020. Candidates who meet UCEED eligibility 2020 can apply for the exam and can start their preparation.
The UCEED 2020 will be held in the following 19 cities in India. UCEED exam pattern 2020 consists of the structure of the paper including subjects, exam duration, marks allotted, negative marking and type of questions. Exam pattern of UCEED 2020 will help the students to prepare better for the exam.
Candidates who wish to get admission in B.Des. course by taking UCEED exam 2020 have ample time to prepare for it. Though the exam preparation should start 7-8 months before the exam, with right strategies you can still cover UCEED syllabus 2020 in 2-3 months. But before making any exam preparation plan, you need to have proper knowledge of the exam pattern. So here UCEED exam pattern 2020 for you:
There is no negative marking for this section. Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks. The questions in this section will not include any choices to choose from. A numeral needs to be entered in the space provided for the answer using the virtual keyboard.
There is no negative or partial marking in this section. A total of 4 marks will be awarded to candidates who select all the correct choices and no wrong choice is selected. This section will include questions that will have one or more than one correct choice among the four given options.
There is negative marking in this section. 3 marks will be awarded for all correct answers and 1 marks will be deducted for the wrong answers. In this section, the candidates will have to choose one correct option among the given four choices. However, there will be no negative marking for skipping the answer completely.
UCEED 2020 syllabus consists of six topics ie; Visualization and spatial ability, Observation and design sensitivity, Environmental and social awareness, Analytical and logical reasoning, Language and Creativity, Design thinking and problem-solving. Candidates should refer the previous year’s question paper so that they will get an idea on the kind of questions asked for the examination. The exam will cover the following six topics:
Knowledge of practical and everyday mechanical and scientific concepts, pictorial and diagrammatic questions to test, understanding of transformation and/or manipulation of 2D and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.
Ability to weigh opinions, arguments or solutions against appropriate criteria. Ability to look at information, be it quantitative or qualitative in nature, and discern patterns within the information. Ability to use logic and structured thinking to deduce from a short passage, which of a number of statements is the most accurate response to a posed question. Ability to check for hidden bias or hidden assumptions and whether evidence and argument support conclusions. Data Interpretation, brain teasers, and patterns.
Ability to detect concealed properties in ordinary things, situations, people and events, and thinking critically about them. Ability to discern subtle differences in visual properties and aesthetic outcomes. Applying attention to certain analysis, details, reasoning, classifying, interfering and predicting.
Reading comprehension, knowledge of English grammar such as sentence structure and usage, the use of tenses, verb pattern, articles and active and passive constructions and vocabulary skills. Ability to use and understand Standard English. Ability to think creatively in terms of alternatives, ability to distinguish innovative options and think outside the box.
History of art, sculptures, and literature. Awareness of social and cultural connection with the design, history of the designed artifact, and socially responsible and environmentally sustainable design responses. General awareness of environmental factors such as population, water, climate, vegetation, pollution, natural resources, weather etc. and their implication on the design of product, images, environment, and infrastructure.
Ability to understand complexity, identify problems, evaluate options, generate alternatives and select solutions. Ability to use visual analogies, signs, metaphors, and symbols.
Mode of Examination: Online mode
Number of Questions: The test will have total 80 questions of maximum 300 marks.
Type of Questions: Type of questions in each section will vary from each other.
Number of Sections: 3 sections (A, B and C.)
Exam Duration: 3 hours
Marking Scheme: Each correct answer in Section A will carry 4 marks, Section B carries 4 marks for each right answer and for Section C, 3 marks will be given for each correct response.
Negative Marking: There is a negative marking of 1 mark in section C only.
