UPSC CMSE Examination: Admissions Open!

The Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) conducts the Combined Medical Services Exam (CMSE) to recruit medical experts to central government jobs like Railways, Ordinance Factories, Government Health Services, Central Health Services and Municipal Corporation of Delhi and others.


Besides CMSE, UPSC conducts the Civil Services exam for IAS, IPS, IFS etc officers, Engineering Services Examination for Engineers to work in Central Government jobs, CDS exam for Defence Personnel, Special Class Railway Apprentice's Exam and Section Officers/ Stenographers Limited Departmental Competitive Exam.


Eligibility Criteria:

 

  • Should be a citizen of India or persons of foreign countries (select countries) who had migrated to India before 1962 with the intention of settling down.
  • Age should not be more than 32 years as on January 1, the year of the exam. A relaxation in age is available to ST/ ST/OBC candidates as notified by the government from time to time.
  • Candidate should be an M.B.B.S (Written & Practical). Final year students of MBBS as well as interns are also eligible to apply on submission of proof of completion of internship by the end of written exam.
  • Ex-Defense personnel (*terms & conditions)
  • A candidate has to pass in the written and practical parts of the final MBBS examination. Candidates appearing at the final MBBS examination are also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates qualifying on the result of the written part of the examination will be required to submit proof of passing the written and practical parts of final MBBS examination along with their detailed application form to be filled up at that stage.
  • A candidate who has yet to complete the compulsory rotating internship is educationally eligible for admission to the examination but on selection he will be appointed only after he has completed the compulsory rotating internship.

 

Age Limit:


A candidate must not have attained the age of 32 years as on 1st January, 2013, i.e. the candidate must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1981. The upper age limit is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC and certain other categories of candidates to the extent specified in the notice.


Fee:

 

  • Candidates applying Online (excepting Female/SC/ST/Physically Handicapped candidates who are exempted from payment of fee are required to pay a reduced fee of Rs. 50/- (Rupees Fifty only) either by remitting the money in any branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI or by using Visa/ Master Credit/ Debit Card.
  • Candidates applying Offline (through Common Application Form) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) through a single Central Recruitment Fee Stamp. Central Recruitment Fee Stamp (NOT postage stamps) may be obtained from the post office and affixed on the application form in the space provided therein.
  • The stamp should be got cancelled from the issuing Post Office with the date stamp of the post office in such a manner that the impression of the cancellation mark partially overflows on the application form itself but within the space provided on the form.
  • The impression of the cancellation stamp should be clear and distinct to facilitate the identification of date and the Post Office of issue.

Exam Pattern:


The exam will be conducted in the following pattern:


Paper I Weightage

  • General Ability - 30 questions
  • General Medicine - 70 questions
  • Pediatrics - 20 questions


Paper II Weightage

  • Surgery - 40 questions
  • Gynecology and Obstetrics - 40 questions
  • Preventive and Social Medicine - 40 questions

 

The second stage of the exam is the Interview & personality Test. Those who clear the written exam are called for the interview, which carries 100 marks.

 

Important Dates:

 

  • Last date of receiving applications: Monday, April 22, 2013.
  • Date of examination: Sunday, June 30, 2013.
