The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has decided to relax the basic eligibility criteria for admissions to engineering courses. The minimum aggregate in 10+2 examinations in physics, chemistry and mathematics (PCM) group has been brought down to 45 % (40 % for reserved category) . Till last year, it was 50 %.
If this new criterion is implemented then the last date of submission of forms is also likely to be extended.
This decision of AICTE was inspired by the fact that despite a globally high demand for engineers, the n number of candidates applying for this field was low. This was not just because of the high fees, but also because it was getting increasingly difficult for students to fulfill the eligibility criterion of securing 50% in the PCM subjects in 10+2.
