Nearly 50% students of the second year of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from 8 private and 3 government dental colleges across Punjab failed to clear the examination in one go held in May and June 2015. As many as 522 students have reportedly got ‘reappear’ in one or two subjects out of a total 1,180 while the result of 40 students is yet to be declared.

About 365 students have failed to clear the examination in pharmacology alone. The students are demanding re-evaluation of the ‘re-appear’ subjects instead of re-totaling of marks as many students, who have re-appears in two papers, are fearing ‘reverse’ of six months.

“This the first time so many of us have got re-appear in the BDS second year examinations. As many as 522 students have got re-appear and result is almost about 50%. About 300 students have got re-appear in two papers, they may have to face ‘reverse’ for 6 months if they fail to clear the examination. We want Baba Farid University to allow revaluation of our papers in which we have failed. We have paid Rs 1.100 per paper for rechecking but the university only re-totaling the marks awarded to a student. But, it would not make any difference in the result. We have requested the university authorities to make a provision of re-evaluation of papers,” said a student of BDS wishing not to be quoted.

Many students from dental colleges across the state visited Faridkot to meet the university authorities on Monday but they were not allowed to meet them.
