The British High Commission in association with Amity University successfully concluded ‘The Great Essay 2020’ competition on January 19, 2020.
The competition was aimed at facilitating the winning students from India get a glimpse of UK and familiarize them with different aspects of multi-cultural Britain.
Over 250 students from various universities and colleges across India participated in the semi-finals of the competition such as Lady Irwin College, National Law University, Delhi, Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Apeejay Satya University Gurgaon. Participants were given a choice to write about a topic of their interest out of four options which included ‘Uniform Currency Worldwide’, ‘World Tourism’, ‘Net Neutrality’, ‘Ethics as a roadblock to Power’ and ‘Changes in India’.
The finale witnessed masterpieces of William Shakespeare, which were enacted by the students from Amity Institute of English Research and Studies and Janki Devi Memorial College. Their effort to recall the early modern era with timeless characters of Shakespeare’s famous plays like ‘Othello’, ‘Cleopatra’, ‘Desdemona’, ‘Lady Macbeth’, ‘Caliban’ are worth appreciating.
The five finalists of the competition included Ms. Prashanti Chundri from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mr. Iashaan Mishra- NLU, Delhi, Ms. Rangashri T K– NLU, Delhi, Ms. Karishma Maria from Amity Law School, Delhi and Ms. Aiman K.Rizvi of ALS, Noida.
