Every year our nation requires about 4 crore units of blood, out of which only a meager 40 Lakh units of blood are available. Blood donation is a safe process. Without prior medical check-ups no one is allowed to donate blood. Every blood donor is given a mini-physical, checking the donor's temperature, blood pressure, pulse and hemoglobin to ensure it is safe for the donor to give blood.
There is a constant need for regular blood supply because blood can be stored for only a limited time before use. Regular blood donations by a sufficient number of healthy people are needed to ensure that safe blood will be available whenever and wherever it is needed.
Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person — the gift of life. A decision to donate your blood can save a life or even several if your blood is separated into its components — red cells, platelets and plasma — which can be used individually for patients with specific conditions.
The camp was organised by Lions Club, Chandigarh with the help of NSS group Sus Cet Tangori. Hundreds of students took part in the drive and enthusiastically donated their blood to save the precious life of someone.
