I have seen the education changing vastly in last thirty years. Being in a leadership position I have been part of executing many the initiatives myself in the last fifteen years. The journey has been truly exciting so far.
After the global shock in 2008 expectations from institutions of higher learning have vastly changed. The issues of responsible management, business ethics, environment and society have entered the curriculum in a major way. Also, use of technology and free courseware has changed the shape of our classrooms and the way material is now delivered.
In my opinion MBA is primarily a general management program. Functional specialisations help a student to get a little more insights into an area rather than making them specialists. While corporates will continue to hire MBA graduates from Business Schools for marketing and finance and jobs will continue to grow they may look for more specialised programs for hiring for sales and HR. Entrepreneurship and family business program continue to remain boutique programs and I do not see it changing much in years to come. These issues may eventually find a place in the MBA curriculum.
