Career Prospects
For the hardware and networking industry, things are looking up, as far as employment and growth opportunities are concerned. The information and communication sector is thriving again, giving a new impetus to the hardware and networking sector.
It has been estimated that by 2011 and 2012 at least 3 lakh engineers and level one support engineer will be required to maintain every 50 desktops. From railways to airways, to banks and retail outlets, there is extensive computerization. Companies in hardware manufacturing, system design, software development, call centre business and telecom - all offer good jobs to hardware professionals. Apart from that these days many hardware and networking engineers are being employed in Wi-Fi broadband setup and installation. The government of India has plans of implementing the Unique Identification card (UID Card) project (Aadhaar) which will generate around 3.5 lakh new jobs most of which consulting, IT services, business process re-engineering, hardware and training maintenance.
How do I get there?
There is no dearth of institutes offering certificate programs and courses in hardware and networking. For a 6 month long certificate course in PC Hardware and Networking, passing 10+2 (science background preferred) or having an ITI certificate or a diploma from a government recognized institution is more than enough. For networking, the student should have a degree or diploma in computer science, electronics, electrical and telecommunication.
Payoff
A qualified professional would start off with at least Rs 8,000 - Rs 10,000 a month and can also earn as high as Rs 30,000 per month. With added certificate courses and years of experience, your take home can increase to Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000.

- Good understanding of network protocols and how services and systems interact with each other and the user.

- A drive to continuously learn new and old technologies and the ability to look outside the box to find better solutions to problems.
