The Delhi University administration has set up a committee to look into the procedure of allotment of Discipline II courses under the four-year undergraduate programme.

The action was initiated after reports of different colleges using different processes for allotment surfaced.

Campuswalkin on April 15 had reported how a number of colleges were limiting the number of subjects that a student can choose from when it came to their minor subject.

The concept of a minor subject was introduced along with the four year undergraduate programme last year whereby a student, after picking his/her main subject in the first year, would have to choose a minor subject or a Discipline II in the third semester.

The idea behind the new system was to allow students to pick and choose according to their interests and not force a set of subjects on them.

The committee that has been set up comprises eight members including the dean of students’ welfare, the OSD examinations and six college heads.

The committee will help colleges draw up a policy to monitor, implement and successfully execute the programme keeping in mind the basic idea of flexibility and interdisciplinarity, that was envisioned in the new programme.

While a few colleges, such as Miranda House and Deen Dayal Upadhyay College, had said that they will allot the subjects that students have chosen, others had asked students to pick subjects based on the main subject that they had opted for at the time of admission.
