One of the biggest festivals of the country is here and the whole nation is its full festive swing. Young Delhites are all prepped up to have a fun filled Diwali even this year, but, they plan to do it a little differently.
These youngsters chose to celebrate green Diwali this year and they urged other people also to join in doing the same.
Here are some students sharing their plans of Diwali Celebrations:
Ananya Mahant, a student of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Delhi University says, “Diwali is a festival of spreading happiness. This year too, I am going to do the same, but for animals around me. Having a pet dog I know how torturous it is for these little creatures. I will not burst crackers. Dogs have a much superior sense of sight, smell and noise when compared to us humans. Many stray dogs suffer from burns, injuries and mental problems caused by crackers.”
Reinstating the same, Lekhika Indoria says, “This year I am not only celebrating Diwali in an environment friendly way, but also promoting the same by putting wallpapers and placards displaying messages like ‘Say no to crackers’. Since this festival is known as the festival of lights’ and not the ‘festival of noise’, we should light lamps instead of wasting money on crackers.”
On the other hand there was also a bunch of youngsters which said that they also had concern for the environment but, they could not give up burning crackers completely. “Can you imagine a silent Diwali? Please don’t dampen the festive spirit. Why can’t the government curb pollution during the rest of the year?” asks a 19-yearold student of Indraprastha University.
For Shaiana Khanna, an aspiring psychologist from Chandigarh, Diwali is the time to dress up in fancy clothes, savour good food and spend quality time with family and friends. “This time Diwali will be a little different because I’ll be away from my family, but there won’t be restrictions on how much time I spend with my friends,” says Khanna.
The youth in the capital have shared their thoughts on the Diwali Celebration. How did you spend your Diwali this season? Do share with us in the comment box below.
