Putting an end to the agony of thousands of students, Delhi University colleges finally came out with their cut-off lists.

As expected, the cut-offs were much higher than the ones declared in 2012, the year that the same courses were offered in the university. In 2013, the university had offered courses under the four year undergraduate programme (FYUP) which was scrapped this year on orders from the University Grants Commission. Comparison to cut offs last year, therefore, would not be accurate.

Commerce and Economics

The already saturated cut-offs for economics and commerce increased yet again, with almost all colleges declaring cut-offs above 90% in both honours and program courses.

Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) declared the cut-off percentage between 99.50% and 97.50% for B Com (honours) and for economics (honours), the cut-off is between 98.25% and 97.50%.

At Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, an off-campus college, declared its cut-off for economics (honours) as 96.5%.

At Lady Shri Ram College, the cut-off for B com (honours) was declared as 97.5% in increase of 0.5 percentage points from 2012. The cut-off for economics (honours) at the college was the same.

“The cut-offs for both economics and commerce are already high in the university since these are the most sought after courses. There is scope for only a small increase here and even a small increase of 0.5 percentage points means adding close to 200 applicants to the eligibility list,” said an economics teacher at Ramjas College.    

Program courses

After a long wait of one year- BA (Program) and B.Com (Program) courses which had been wiped out by the recently scraped FYUP have been revived.

These courses have seen a considerable leap in their cut-off percentages which were as high as seven percent for many colleges. North campus’ Hindu college’s cut-off for BA (Programme) stood at 95% to 96% which is four percent more than it was in 2012, while in south campus’ Gargi College it was between 85% and 89% as opposed to 78% to 82% in 2012.

Colleges like IP College for women also had its cut-offs for BA (Program) ranging between 90% and 95%, which 6% more than last time.A similar trend was seen for B.Com (Program).

Shaheed Bhagat Singh College announced 94% as its initial cut-off. In 2012 however the cut-off percentage was four percent lower.“The program courses were in no way lesser that the honours courses in fact it becomes easier for students who pursue other courses to balance their graduation alongside program courses,” said a professor who taught B.Com program.
