Most of the autonomous engineering colleges under Mumbai University offer admissions in their B.E./B-Tech courses based on the students’ JEE Main scores and/or their performance in MHT-CET (Maharashtra Technical Common Entrance Test). The Directorate of Technical Education carries out the admission process through several rounds, which are known as CAPAI or Centralized Admission Process to Autonomous Institutes together.
As several engineering colleges under Mumbai University also have undergraduate diploma programmes in engineering and technology, the admission in these programmes is done based on student’s scores in their matriculation board exam.
The admission of engineering graduates in M.E./M-Tech programmes is done based on their GATE performance or sponsorship. Those who have completed a postgraduate programme in engineering/technology can apply for PhD programmes in their discipline.
The various engineering colleges under Mumbai University have the following basic criteria to admit students in B.E./B-Tech programmes:
• Students should have passed class 12 exam of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education/CBSE/any other equivalent board or university outside Maharashtra.
• Students should have passed class 12 with their subjects as physics, chemistry, mathematics, and English. For biomedical or biotechnology engineering, it is also mandatory to have passed the subject of biology.
• Students should have secured a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate of PCM subjects in class 12 qualifying exam. The percentage may vary for non-general and other categories.
