Courses Available at Government Engineering Institutes

If you are interested in joining a programme at one of the government engineering colleges in Ajmer, then let us tell you about all the available courses these institutes offer. There are engineering and technology programmes at all academic levels.

Undergraduate Programmes: Whether it is the engineering department of an above-listed university or an affiliated engineering college, all of these institutions provide a variety of four-year B.E. / B. Tech programmes in many disciplines. While you may find all common disciplines, some of the colleges also have not-so-common options like Nanotechnology and geological engineering.

Postgraduate Programmes: The listed government engineering colleges in Ajmer also offer 2-year M.E. / M. Tech courses for engineering graduates who want to pursue postgraduate education in the domain of engineering. However, not all colleges offer Master’s degree courses in engineering. Thus, you must check the desired course availability on the college website before you decide to apply for a particular programme.

Doctoral Programmes: Few government engineering colleges in Ajmer even offer PhD programmes in engineering. Those who wish to pursue a PhD in engineering can apply for this course.

Diploma Programmes: Along with undergraduate programmes, a few colleges have diploma programmes of three years or lesser duration in certain engineering domains. There may be some relaxation in the minimum eligibility conditions for these programmes. Candidates are advised to visit the specific college website to learn about the availability and eligibility of such programmes.

General Eligibility Criteria for Admission in Government Engineering Colleges

While the eligibility to seek admission in any of the government engineering colleges in Ajmer may differ from other colleges, let us tell you about the basic eligibility criteria that all these colleges demand:

For B.E. / B. Tech:

o The candidate should have completed or should be appearing in the 10+2 exam with PCM subjects or have an equivalent qualification from a recognised board in India.

o The candidate should have secured a minimum of 45% marks in the 12th class exam (this criterion may vary by college and may be relaxed for SC/ST students).

o The candidate needs to qualify the JEE Main exam with a valid score/rank. While this criterion is critical for admission in most of the government engineering colleges in Ajmer, a few institutes may consider the scores of local candidates in the RPET (Rajasthan Pre-Entrance Test) exam. You must check this eligibility condition offered by the specific college in which you are applying.

For M.E. / M. Tech:

o The candidate should have passed the B.E. / B. Tech degree with a minimum of 55% marks. This criterion may differ by college and may be slightly relaxed for SC/ST candidates. The candidates appearing in the final year exam may also apply for M.E. or M. Tech programmes at one of the government engineering colleges in Ajmer, provided they meet the eligibility conditions at the time of admission.

o The candidate should have a valid GATE score. As there may be an admission option in case of the non-availability of GATE scores, candidates must check with the individual college before applying. There may be an alternative of going through a written test and interview.

For PhD:

o The candidate should have passed the M.E. / M. Tech degree with a minimum score as defined by the specific college. Interested students must check the specific guidelines of the particular college before applying.

The JEE Main/RPET Criterion for B. Tech/B.E. Admissions

If you wish to secure admission in a B.E. or B. Tech programme in one of the above-mentioned colleges and have no idea of the qualifying exam, then check out a few essential details here:

JEE Main:

The exam is held by CBSE to select meritorious candidates for admissions in various engineering colleges across India. While its scores and ranks are acceptable to all participating colleges, several other colleges also accept them across India. Thus, you will need to qualify in this exam by beating its cutoff, provided your chosen government college accepts JEE Main ranks to offer admissions in its undergraduate programmes.

RPET:

Some of the government engineering colleges in Ajmer may need you to qualify RPET to get admission in one of the colleges in the state of Rajasthan. As you are applying for a government college in Ajmer, the scores of RPET may be considered in place of JEE Main. However, this criterion is mostly applicable to local candidates and the college may accept JEE Main scores for outside candidates.
Thus, you must read every eligibility detail released by the specific college in which you are going to apply. You must take the right test according to your candidature conditions.
