The most general requirements include a college degree in journalism, English or communications. Most editing jobs require one to have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or communications. Specialized knowledge in areas of business, law, fashion or a second language is an added advantage. There are institutes which offer editing and publishing courses and which also teach specific magazine or newspaper style elements. While in college, join the literary journal, campus magazine or newspaper. Familiarize yourself with the style guide/manual used by publishing houses, magazines or newspapers. There are courses for the same.
Write for publications or get an internship there. Writing is an essential skill in the publishing industry which is made up of writers and editors.
