Students of Himachal Pradesh University have a reason to rejoice as the university has decided to pass all students who secured an aggregate percentage of 45% by revising the pass percentage marks for semester examination.
The revision came in the light of the recent mass failure of students after the university made it compulsory for students to obtain a minimum of 45% marks in internal examination, external examination and overall aggregate percentage.
The internal and external examination marks criteria have also changed to 30:70. Previous criteria of 50:50 are considered another reason for mass failure of students.
A high-level meeting was conducted to discuss the issue and was attended by Pro Vice Chancellor, Principal Secretary (Education), Director High Education, MLA Bamber Thakur, EC member, Dean of Planning, Dean of Studies and Registrar & Controller of Examination. The meeting was chaired was by Vice Chancellor ADN Bajpai.
The decision to revise the pass percentage marks was based on the recommendations of a high-powered committee that suggested lowering down of the pass percentage for both internal as well as external examination from 45% to 35% from next year.
However, Vice Chancellor ADN Bajpai clarified that the mass failure was a result of poor performance of students and the university should not be held responsible for it.
The revised results of the first semester along with the official notification will be issued by the concerned authorities by September 17, 2020.
Bajpai also said that students who have failed the examination will have to reappear for the examination.
