IIT-JAM 2012: Indian Institute of Technology Joint Admission Test for MCA

Indian Institute of Technology Joint Admission Test for MCA 2012 (IIT JAM), is conducted every-year by Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for admission into postgraduate level courses, namely, M. Sc.,MCA, M. Sc .-Ph. d. (Dual degree) and other post B. Sc. Programmes, at the IITs.

JAM 2012 will be held on 12 February, 2012. This is approximately 3 months earlier than the past years and has resulted in changes in application dates and other deadlines.

Candidates have to indicate the codes of two cities where they are willing to appear in JAM 2012. If enough candidates are not available at a listed city/town, then the city/town may be dropped out from the list, and candidates will either be allotted a centre in the city of their second choice or in a city near the city of first choice. A centre once allotted will not normally be changed.A request for change of a centre within the same city/town will not be permitted. In exceptional circumstances, a change of centre to another city/town may be permitted if a request with a valid reason for the same is received in the office of the Organizing Chairman, JAM 2012, IIT Bombay, on or before 13 December 2011 along with a Demand Draft of Rs. 250 (Rs. 125 for SC/ST and PD candidates) drawn in favour of “Chairman, JAM, IIT Bombay”, on any Nationalized Bank, payable at Mumbai. The decision of the Organizing Chairman, JAM 2012, in this regard will be final.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A candidate should have a bachelor’s degree with Mathematics as a subject for at least one year / at least two papers of Mathematics for semester system candidates. 
  • Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility criteria for admissions in IITs:
    • Candidates must have secured at least 55% aggregate marks or equivalent score (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries in all years combined) in the qualifying degree.
    • There is a relaxation of 5% of marks in case of SC/ST/PD category candidates. At the time of admission, all admitted candidates will have to submit a physical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed form.
    • For candidates with letter grades/CGPA (instead of percentage of marks), the equivalence in percentage of marks will be decided by the Admitting Institutes.

Master of Computer Applications (MCA)

Exam Pattern

Each Test paper will be of 3 hours duration.

  • Candidates can appear in either one or two test Papers, subject to the restrictions imposed by the test schedule.
  • All other Test Papers will be Objective-cum-Subjective Type. In each of these six Test Papers, out of the total marks assigned on the Test Paper, objective and subjective questions will carry weight-age of 30% and 70%, respectively.
  • Candidates should ensure that there is no clash of time schedule for the chosen test papers.
  • Test Papers for Biotechnology and Computer Applications will be fully Objective Type and are supposed to be answered in an Objective Response Sheet (ORS), by darkening appropriate bubbles.
  • There will be negative marking for wrong answers to the Objective type questions in all Test Papers.

Application Procedure

Candidates can submit Application Form in two different modes : Online and Offline. The preferred mode of application process is Online.

Online Application Process:

Step 1: Payment Option
Payment through Demand Draft only.
Demand draft of appropriate amount should be drawn in favour of “Chairman JAM, IIT Bombay”, on any bank, payable at Bombay.

Step 2: Obtain SC/ST/PD Certificate (if applicable)
Authorities empowered to issue Certificates SC/ST
OBC candidates NEED NOT SEND any certificate with the application form. It will be required only at the time of applying for admission.

Step 3: Apply Online
Candidates must follow all instructions strictly while applying online.
At the end of this process, a PDF file will be generated with the following pages:
Page-1: JAM 2012 Application Form
Page-2: Address Slip
Take a print out of the entire file.

Step 4:
Paste your recent color photograph (3 cm X 4 cm) in the designated place of Page-1.
Sign at the designated places of Page-1.
Paste the Page-2 on top of a A4-size envelope.

Step 5: Post/Submission
Duly filled-in Application Form with appropriate enclosures must be sent by Speed Post (preferably) or by Registered Post to The Organizing Chairman, JAM 2012, IIT Bombay, Powai, Mumbai 400 076 so as to reach there on or before 1st November, 2011 OR
It can be handed over personally to GATE-JAM Office, IIT Bombay

Offline Application Process:

Step 1: Procurement of Application Form
Candidate can obtain a packet containing:
Offline Application Form
Information Brochure
Envelope
from:
Designated Bank Branches of Canara Brank on cash payment. OR
from GATE-JAM Office, IIT Bombay after handing over Demand Draft for appropriate amount. 

Step 2: Obtain SC/ST/PD Certificate (if applicable)
Authorities empowered to issue Certificates SC/ST
OBC candidates NEED NOT SEND any certificate with the application form. It will be required only at the time of applying for admission

Step 3: Fill in the Application Form
Candidates must follow the instructions provided in JAM 2012 information brochure.

Step 4:
Paste your recent photograph (3 cm X 4 cm) in the designated place of OMR sheet.
Sign at the designated places of OMR sheet.
Write the test city first choice code, paper code and your address on the envelope.

Step 5: Post/Submission
Duly filled-in Application Form with appropriate enclosures must be sent by Speed Post (preferably) or by Registered Post to The Organizing Chairman, JAM 2012, IIT Bomaby, Powai, MUMBAI 400 076 so as to reach there on or before 1st November, 2011 OR
It can be handed over personally to GATE-JAM Office, IIT Bombay.
