There are multiple engineering entrance exams conducted in India. While some are conducted on an all India basis, some are conducted by state governenments and some by private institutes.

JEE Mains

About the exam

The All India Engineering/ Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) was held every year by CBSE on an all India level for admission to professional and technical programmes in India. But from 2013 onwards the JEE (Main) has replaced the AIEEE exam.

Courses offered by this exam

After appearing for JEE and clearing the exam, you are eligible for admission to all engineering courses in India.

Eligibility Criteria

  • To be eligible to apply for the B.E./ B.Tech course, should have studied Physics & Mathematics at 10+2 level with any one from Chemistry, Bio-Technology, Computer Science or Biology as optional subjects.
  • For the B.Arch/ B.Planning course, students should have had Mathematics with 50% marks in aggregate at 10+2 level.

Important Dates

  • JEE (Main) for Pen and Paper Based examination Paper I - April 7, 2013 (9:30 – 12:30 hours)
  • JEE (Main) for Pen and Paper Based examination Paper II - April 7, 2013 (14:00 – 17:00 hours)
  • Date of JEE (Main) (Computer Based Examination) - April 8, 2013 – April 25, 2013
  • Online submission of application at official website of JEE - April 8, 2013 – April 15, 2013

 

JEE Advanced

About the exam

IIT-JEE (Indian Institute of Technology - Joint Entrance Exam) is the exam conducted for the students who aspire to take admission in Engineering and Technology courses under the top technical institutes of India like IIT's, NIT's, central and state funded institutions.

Courses offered by this exam

To sit for JEE Advanced, you will have to first clear JEE Mains. Once through with JEE Advanced, you are eligible for direct admission to the top technical institutes of India, as mentioned above.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates who will first appear for the JEE (Main) screening test, will be filtered out of the top 1.5 lakh students for the JEE (Advanced) test if they want admission in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT's) across India.
  • The final IIT ranking would depend only on the all India rank in JEE (Advanced), subject to the successful students meeting the percentile criteria. The top 20 percentile will vary across boards from year to year.

  • Registration for JEE (Advanced) 2013 - May 8, 2013 - May 13, 2013
  • Exam Date JEE (Advanced) 2013 - June 2, 2013 (Sunday)

 

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (Online Exam) GATE

About the exam

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an all India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, for admission to Post Graduation/PhD courses in Engineering.

Eligibility Criteria

The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear for GATE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
  • Master degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
  • Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
  • Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE (I), AMICE (I) by the Institute of Civil Engineer (India)-ICE (I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

All India Admission Test (ATIT) ICFAI

ATIT is an All India admission test conducted by the ICFAI University Group for students seeking admission into the B.Tech Program. ATIT 2013 is an aptitude test based on Computer Based Test (CBT) format.

All fields of engineering will be open to you after this exam.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Admission for B.Tech Program for all the ICFAI Universities is minimum 50% aggregate in Class XII examination or its equivalent with pass in each of the Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English subjects.
  • Admission will be offered based on scores secured in ATIT 2013 / JEE (Main/Advanced) 2013/ State Level / Other National Level Engineering Entrance Tests (2013)

  • ATIT Test Dates - May 05, 2013 to May 11, 2013
  • Declaration of Results - May 20, 2013

 

NMIMS NMAT (T)

About the exam

4 year B. Tech. program for the academic year commencing from July/August, 2013. Admission for this program is through NMAT (UG) 2013.

Course offered by this exam

This exam makes you eligible for all engineering courses.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidate must have passed 10 + 2 or equivalent exam including international IB Diploma (IB certificate awarded is not eligible) &
  • With science or science vocational &
  • Minimum 50% marks in PCM for Mumbai campus & 45% marks in PCM for Shirpur campus. &
  • Those awaiting their 10+2 exam result this year may also apply.
  • Candidates who have passed the 10+2 exam by doing a part-time course or through distance learning/correspondence/externally/open school are not eligible to apply for the courses.
  • Candidates should present single marksheet. Candidates passed with compartment are not eligible.

ECET FDH: Engineering Common Entrance Test for Diploma Holders ECET

About the exam

Engineering Common Entrance Test (ECET-2013) will be conducted by JNTUK, Kakinada on behalf of Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education for Diploma holders of Engineering/ Technology/ Pharmacy and B.Sc Graduates with Mathematics for admission in University and AICTE/PCI approved institutes (1st and 2nd year level as applicable) in Andhra Pradesh for academic year 2013-14.

Eligible for courses

This exam makes you eligible for all engineering courses.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates should be of Indian nationality.
  • Only those candidates who are presently in the final year/final semester of the Diploma programme or who have obtained Diploma in the concerned branch of Engineering from State Board of Technical Education and training of Andhra Pradesh or any diploma recognized by the Government of Andhra Pradesh as equivalent are eligible for entrance test for B.E./B.Tech.
  • Degree courses in the branches of Engineering corresponding, to their Diploma as noted below and as permitted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh from time to time.

Important Dates

  • Last date for submission of online application forms (without late fee) - April 1st, 2013 (Monday)
  • Date of entrance test - May 20th, 2013 (Monday)

 

Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam (VITEEE)

About the exam

VITEEE is an entrance exam conducted by VIT University for admission to B.Tech programs with specializations in Biotech, Bioinfo, Biomed, Civil, CSE, ECE, EEE, EIE, IT, Mech, Mech (Energy), Mech (Chemical), Mech (Auto), Production & IE offered at Vellore and Chennai campuses for the commencing session 2013.

Eligible for courses

  • Candidates appearing for VITEEE-2013 should have either completed or shall be appearing in 2013, in any one of the following qualifying examinations
  • The final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State Board; Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi); The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE, New Delhi).
  • Intermediate or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates appearing for VITEEE-2013 should have either completed or shall be appearing in 2013, in any one of the following qualifying examinations:
  • The final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State Board; Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi); The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE, New Delhi).
  • Intermediate or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Srilanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
  • Candidates appearing for the VITEEE-2013 should have secured an aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/ Biology in the qualifying examination (+2/ Intermediate)
  • The average marks obtained in the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology (PCM/PCB) in +2 (or its equivalent) put together should be 50% for candidates belonging to SC/ST and students hailing from Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

Lovely Professional University National Engineering Aptitude Test (LPU NEAT)

About the exam

Lovely Professional University conducts National Engineering Aptitude Test (NEAT) for enrolling students to courses in various branches of engineering, at the undergraduate level. It is an online exam, conducted at test centres located all across India. A dual program in technology is also an option.

Eligible for courses

The candidate, who have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination, with Physics, Math and English as compulsory subjects and Chemistry/ Biology/ Computer science/ Biotech as one of the optional subjects with minimum 50% aggregate marks, are eligible.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Pass with 70% aggregate marks in 10+2 or equivalent (with Physics, Mathematics and English/Computer Science)*.

  • Pass with 50% aggregate marks in 10+2 or equivalent (with
  • *For B.Tech (Biotech), B.Tech (Nanotechnology) and B.Tech(Food Technology)

Subjects considered:

Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers (AMIE)

About the exam

The AMIE examinations are conducted in every June and December. A student can appear examination in a centre anywhere in India or abroad. When a student clears all subjects in both sections A and B he is said to have passed A.M.I.E examination and becomes a qualified graduate engineer.

Eligible for courses

Once through with AIME, you will be a qualified graduate engineer.

Eligibility Criteria

You have to be a member to be eligible to take this test.
