International Women's Day was organized at KIIT on Sunday. The theme of this year Women’s Day was "Make it happen-Equity, Empowerment, Excellence". Speaking on the occasion Eivind S. Homme, Norwegian Ambassador to Republic of India said women can bring prosperity to any nation. They have such qualities to lead a country. They are capable of doing excellent in every sphere. In this context Homme gave the example of Norway.
In his speech Noted Writer and Founder of Counselage India Suhel Seth said, women are the centre of every society. Women are as competent as men. He questioned the discrimination in every point between man and woman. He also said denier of equal opportunities across all society irrespective of caste, creed, colour and gender. Women are highly intelligent and more responsible than man. He criticised stereotype propaganda about women every day. We should respect women not for patronized point of view, but for reorganization point of view. He also said, women need reality not tokenism by celebrating international Women’s Day. We can value women’s capabilities. Women are diligent, hard working and intelligent, he added.
Addressing the gathering Noted Cine Actress, Film Director and Social Activist Nandita Das asked the women to follow their heart. They should do what they wish. They should not depend upon others for taking decision in every sphere. She also highlighted the impact of reel life and real life in her life.
Akila Urankar, President, Business Standard Ltd said on women self empowerment. Women should believe in her and dream in herself. She gave some example of women self empowerment. In this context she gave the example of Mandesi Bank, Satara set up and managed by a group of women.
Indrani Pal-chaudhuri Director, UN World film Forum said, women are internally powerful. Their voice can change the entire world. Women can bring prosperity to any country.
In his welcome address Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS said, KIIT and KISS always give importance to women empowerment. Women can’t be empowering without quality education, he added. We are giving quality education to women in KIIT & KISS to empower them.
The programme was presided by Ms. Saswati Bal, President, KIIT and KISS Society, while Dr. Monalisa Bal, Chairperson, KIIT International School Prof. P. P. Mathur, Vice- Chancellor, KIIT University also spoke on the occasion.
