JEE Main 2020 Cutoff for Top NITs

Nitin Rao updated on : 22 Sep, 2020 1777

JEE Main 2020 Cutoff for Top NITs- If you are an engineering aspirant, you would have the knowledge of JEE or Joint Entrance Examination that is conducted by CBSE for admission in engineering courses in participating institutes like IITsNITsIIITs, GFTIs, etc. While every engineering, technology or architecture programme aspirant wants to join the best of institutions, not everybody can attain a high score and rank in the JEE Main exam. CBSE sets a cut-off for admissions. This cut-off is the minimum score required to qualify the exam and be eligible for admission counselling. Before explaining about the JEE Main 2020 cut-off for top NITs, check out how it is decided.

Use JEE Main Rank Predictor to know about your expected rank and colleges & courses you can get.

How the JEE Main Cut-off is Set

There are several factors considered by CBSE to decide the qualifying cut-off for a particular year of JEE Main exam. While the number of appearing students and their categories (General, OBC, SC/ST, etc.) are among these factors, the overall performance of students in the exam, the participating colleges, and the total number of seats available in these institutions are also the criteria to take a decision on the cut-off.

You should also know that the qualifying cut-off only makes you eligible to attend the counselling towards admission in any of the participating colleges. However, it is the JEE Main 2020 cut-off for top NITs, IIITs, and other colleges that can get you admission in a college of your choice. Setting this cut-off is the authority of each college. Thus, you will need to keep a check on the NIT cut-offs if you are interested in these institutions of repute.

About NITs

NITs refer to the National Institutes of Technology that are the premier engineering and technology institutions in the country. Almost all engineering aspirants want to get into NITs if they are unable to secure admission in the top colleges that are IITs. NITs hold the status of Institutes of National Importance, offered to them by the Government of India. As most NITs have been formed out of the old RECs or regional engineering colleges, there is hardly any doubt on the quality of engineering education they deliver to students. Currently, all 31 NITs in India allocate seats through JEE Main. Let us check out the JEE Main 2020 cut-off for top NITs spread across India.

How to Get Admission in Top NITs after Qualifying JEE Main

Not every student is able to make it to NITs even after qualifying JEE Main. If you think you will be able to score higher than the JEE Main 2020 cut-off for top NITs, then it can be a career-shaping step for you. As many students appearing in JEE Main 2020 may not know how to proceed after qualifying the exam, we are making it simpler for you. Check out the below-mentioned steps to know how counselling and seat allotment take place.

Registering for JoSAA Counselling:  JoSAA is the Joint Seat Allocation Authority that conducts the counselling for admission in the JEE Main participating colleges, including NITs. If you meet the JEE Main qualifying cut-off, then you can get admission in one of these colleges. To begin with, you will have to register for online counselling by filling in and submitting the counselling form on the official website.

Filling in and Locking Choices: The next step is to provide your institution and branch choices while registering. JoSAA will consider your preferences during seat allocation. Thus, make sure to choose the best of NITs if you feel that you will be able to meet the JEE Main 2020 cut-off for top NITs. However, you may give NITs higher priority and make other choices too.

Counselling and Seat Allotment: The process of counselling will begin this year at the start of July 2020. There will be six rounds of counselling. The JEE Main cutoff 2020 for top NITs will be announced freshly after each round of counselling. If you have a higher rank in JEE Main, then there may be good chances of you securing a seat according to your preference. If you are allotted a seat in the first round, you can accept that seat by paying the fee for it. Else, you may need to attend the further rounds too.

While you have the options of freezing your seat or waiting for better allocation, we suggest freezing it if you get admission in the desired course in any of the top NITs.
