IIHMR University, in cooperation with the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA offers a degree in Master of Public Health (MPH). Known as the Mecca of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University’s tie-up with an Indian University has been done for the first time ever in India. IIHMR University commenced inviting applications, for its third batch of MPH Programme from 1st February, 2015.
Dr. SD Gupta, President, IIHMR University said, “Public Health has changed dramatically in the last century. There is a dire necessity to build public health capacities in developing countries, especially in the low and middle income countries. We have limited capacities and skills in public health, also, we hardly find a high quality public health programme that is designed to encourage and respond to the health problems in low and middle income countries. Hence, it is time to re-examine our curriculums to ensure we are delivering education, research, practices and experience that is vibrant, viable, relevant and realistic. This is primarily the reason and what we aim to provide with our collaborative programme of Master of Public Health with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA.”
Dr. Gupta added, “What is even more striking is that, the programme’s fee is one third of what a student would be shelling from his pocket when he opts for any other education programme in the USA. The course fee is of USD 22,000. The course work is elaborate, allowing our students to not only experience a 2 week training programme at the Johns Hopkins University Campus, but, gives them a unique opportunity to acquire Public health skills and management skills through our MPH programme. All students admitted to this course will be provided an international travel and stay scholarship. The Master of Public Health degree program is designed to preparing professionals for challenging careers in public health management in the public & private sectors, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) & national and multinational organizations. The pedagogy in each course is selected judiciously; with an emphasis on involving the students in learning and helping them to relate concepts and theories of core public health and management.”
Out of total 80 credits, 30 credits are taught by John Hopkins University (JHU) faculty and the remaining 50 credits are taught by IIHMR faculty. The collaboration between the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) and IIHMR will enable the students to benefit from Johns Hopkins’ track record of excellence in teaching public health and IIHMR’s expertise in health management.
