The Department of Mass Media of K. C. College, rated as one of the best college in Mumbai by India Today magazine in its July 2014 edition for a third year in a row, organized a two day International conference titled 'Media Summit'. This year the theme of the conference was ‘Visual Media Culture’ which was held on 20th & 21st February, 2015 at the K.C. campus Colaba.
The annual conference aimed to cater to all students especially the postgraduates from MACJ (Master of Communication & Journalism) and MAEMA (M.A. in Entertainment, Media and Advertising). The inter-disciplinary summit became a melting pot of ideas on visual media and the diverse cultures it has nurtured. A host of events ranging from research paper presentations to panel discussions provided a new-fangled lease of creativity. The conference explored different fields of visual media; from mobile phone touch screen interfaces to signboards on the highway, from graphical art adorning airport terminals to evolving designs of newspapers, from typography to photography and many more such facets of visual media.

Inaugurating the conference, Chief Guest, Mr. Subhash Kamath, CEO & Managing Partner, Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) India; emphasized on the growth of the media, the dynamism of visual media highlighting the importance of different verticals of the media.

Guest of Honour, Dr. Sangeeta Bagga, Professor Chair, Centre For Feminist Social Studies School HumES, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, Research Group CCD, Communication, Culture and Diversity, Örebro University, Örebro, Sweden; appreciated the relevance of the theme of the conference in today’s context and focused on the burgeoning visual media culture across a range of social arenas. The summit also saw the release of the first edition of the Research Journal: Media Research and Communication Studies Journal and the release of the annual newspaper SCRIBE.

On the second day, the theme of the panel discussion - Visual Media Culture-An Indian Perspective was held with panellists Mr. Kurush Dastur, Creative Expert, Geometry Global; Mr. Shoaib Ahmed, Former City Bureau Chief, CNN-IBN & Times Now, Mr. Yogesh Pawar, Deputy News Editor with DNA Mumbai and Mrs. Nandani Sardesai, Member of Censor Board as the moderator.
Elated, Ms. Manju Nichani, Principal, K.C. College said, “At K. C. College, it has always been our endeavour to create wonderful windows of opportunity for all who are part of this college and this conference has been organized with the same objective. The catalyst of organizing such a conference was to provide students with a platform where they could interact with a plethora of media professionals and learnt from them immensely. At K.C. College we constantly seek to explore different avenues that help students to experience variety and shore up to the upcoming challenges in future.”
