Arena Animation, a leading animation institution of India, announced the successful conclusion of its first Kalakari Festival in Mumbai. The one day festival gives a platform to artists and creative minds to showcase their skills and learn from senior artists who have left a mark on the international art scene. The festival saw a footfall of 400 students. It was inaugurated by Mr. Anuj Kacker, Executive Director, Aptech Ltd.

During the festival, the students got an opportunity to attend seminars and workshops by top names from India’s creative pool talent.  National Award-winning animator and filmmaker Chetan Sharma, who is also one of the founder-directors of Animagic animation studio, conducted a live ‘sketching-through-music’ workshop for the participants. Other workshops on themes such as stop motion animation, acting for animation, voice acting for animation, pixilation, and character design helped the students to enhance their knowledge in these areas. The talent hunt session of the event saw tremendous enthusiasm from the participants with a total of eight project submissions. The winner of the Best Kalakari Award was Deepak Parab from Nirmala Niketan College. He was awarded with Rs. 10, 000.

“Kalakari is the first of its kind in the industry. At Arena, we believe that to enhance the learning of the students and make their job ready, it is important to take them out of the classrooms and make them learn through observation, communication, and inspiration from other artists, and by the nature itself. At Kalakari, students get a chance to find the perfect platform to experience art and learn from experienced professionals,” said Mr. Anuj Kacker, Executive Director, Aptech Ltd., while delivering the welcome address.

The next Kalakari festivals are going to be held in Ahmedabad on February 11, 2015, at Info city Club & Resort; Kolkata on February 18, 2015, at Swabhumi, The Heritage Plaza; Delhi on February 26, 2015 at The Ocean Pearl Retreat. A large number of students have shown interest and registered for the events at Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Kolkata.

To enhance the creative quotient of the event, some participants put up kiosks to display their hand-made artwork of all types, while other participants put up dance and music performances. Apart from performing, the participants also got an opportunity to witness dance and music performances, by professional artists from across the country, including dance forms such as Bhangra and Theyyam.
