Students of Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC), India’s leading educator in high-end 3D Animation and Visual Effects, have attempted to earn a place in the prestigious Limca Book of Records during its recently-held National Students Meet.

To attempt this record, over 200 students came together and created a life-size artwork on the Rann of Kutch in less than five hours under the guidance of the MAAC R&D team.

The idea behind such a meet is to encourage animation and VFX students from all parts of the country to come together to be part of creative and technical seminars, workshops, case studies, panel discussions and activities. Besides this, such platforms provide animation enthusiasts a platform to collaborate on live projects, network with eminent personalities of the animation industry and get access to real life experiences and industry insights.

Commenting on the Students' Meet, Mr. Ram Warrier, Business Head, MAAC and Sr. Vice President, APTECH said, “The life-size artwork is one such example of the creative work and enthusiasm that MAAC students exhibit each year at the National Students Meet. This is a great platform for knowledge sharing and interfacing with industry experts and accomplished thought leaders. MAAC National Students Meet is also a marriage of cultures, as students from varied regions, cultures and ethnicities get to know each other and share their experiences.”

During the four days, students attended workshops and keynotes from leading names of the industry. Sanath PC, Founder-Director of Firefly Creative Studio, took students through the "behind-the-scenes" of the mega blockbuster Baahubali. He spoke on various nuances of VFX techniques used to create the movie.

The showstopper of the event, Mr. Shoojit Sircar, the National Film Award winner and director of some exquisite movies such as Vicky Donor, Piku and Madras Cafe, conducted a session on film-making. After this session, acclaimed fashion photographer, Colston Julian, took students through the craft of photography. This was closely followed by a session on animation design by veteran animation film designer Dhimant Vyas, and a workshop on pre-production by Sanjiv Waeerkar, Chief Creative Officer, MAAC.

According to a finding in FICCI KPMG 2014, the animation, VFX and post-production industry in India is valued at Rs 44.9 billion. This can be attributed to the fact that animation can now be found in every aspect of our lives from television, banking, entertainment, online shopping, web site designs etc. Animation is a versatile and sought after skill to possess as the scope of careers is possible in virtually every sector from advertising, architecture, aviation, hospitality, travel and tourism, engineering, hospitals, and media and entertainment etc.
