National Institutes of Technology or NITs are the most preferred choices of students who want to take admission in various B. Tech programmes at the best of engineering and technology institutions. For candidates who are interested in pursuing B.Tech in information technology (IT), it is a great option to go for NITs. However, there is a NITs cutoff for B. Tech Information Technology that is declared every year to select suitable candidates for admissions in these premier institutes in India. Let us give you every detail regarding NITs cutoffs and admission procedure.
Information technology is a common B. Tech programme that is offered by several NITs. If you have to take admission in this specific course, then it is important to go for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) after clearing your 12th class exam with PCM subjects. The JEE Main exam is conducted every year by CBSE to offer admissions in the undergraduate programmes of various premium engineering/technology colleges of India, including NITs. All NITs participate in this selection process through JEE and accept the JEE scores of students to select them for B. Tech admissions.
While there is a minimum JEE score cutoff that students need to cross in order to qualify the exam, it is also important to clear the JEE score cutoffs that individual colleges set for admissions in their various engineering and technology programmes. Following the same, every NIT in India also sets its own JEE score cutoffs for the courses they offer. If you are interested in seeking admission in their B. Tech programmes, then you will need to qualify JEE and score above NITs cut-off for B. Tech information technology.
If you are going to appear in JEE 2020, then you may be ready to take your test on April 2, 2020 (if opted for the offline exam) or April 8 and 9, 2020 (if opted for the online exam). As the results for paper 1 will be declared on April 27, 2020, the NITs cutoff for B. Tech information technology for the current year will be known after the results are declared. There are several factors considered by NITs to set these cutoffs every year. A few of these factors include the number of candidates appearing in JEE Main, the difficulty level of the exam, the number of seats available in the B. Tech IT programme of specific NITs, etc.

If you are unsure of what ranks mean, then let us tell you that based on JEE Main scores, candidates receive All India Ranks. Find out the ranks that you may need to achieve to clear the NITs cut-off for B.Tech information technology and get admission in the desired college. However, the following lists do not guarantee that the cutoffs in 2020 will match the previous cutoffs in an exact manner. As B.Tech IT admissions in NITs take place on the basis of candidates’ performance in JEE Main, only those students are considered who clear the NITs cutoff for B. Tech information technology. However, it is important to know what the opening and closing ranks are. Let us clarify that NITs consider the All India Ranks declared by CBSE for offering admissions. The opening rank for a course is the top rank at which admissions are started in each round of counselling. Similarly, the closing rank is the rank at which the last student is admitted in each round of counselling.
You must know that the institute declares opening and closing rank cutoffs for every B. Tech programme. The institute also declares the fresh opening and closing rank cutoffs after each round of counselling. In the above table, we have provided the opening ranks of the first round of counselling and the closing ranks of the last round of counselling at specific NITs. This gives you the entire cutoff range. The number of counselling rounds may not be the same for every institution. It depends on the number of seats available in each institute. Thus, once you have an idea of the opening and closing NITs cut-off for B.Tech information technology, you will be prepared to perform to your best to achieve a higher rank.
If you are a NIT aspirant, you must know the difference between several quotas or reservation. A quota means that a specific percentage of seats in an institute are reserved for candidates belonging to that quota category. This is not the same as the reservation for SC/ST/OBC and other categories. The Home State and Other State quotas may differ per each institute’s norms or the state norms. Here is what we mean by HS and OS:
Under this quota, almost 50% of the seats are reserved for candidates based on their state of eligibility. The state of eligibility means the state from where they have completed their 12th class. Seats are filled in your HS quota per your All India Rank.
Under this quota too, almost 50% of the seats are reserved for candidates who are beyond the Home State.
We hope you are now clear on the way seats are allocated to HS and OS candidates while also considering the NITs cut-off for B.Tech information technology.
