The 6 IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) at Mumbai, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai and Roorkee and IISc Bengaluru that used to conduct
JMET (Joint Management Entrance Test) have decided to discontinue it and instead will use
CAT (Common Admission Test conducted by the IIMs) scores for the admission procedures of their post-graduate management degree programmes (MBAs).
IIT-Madras was supposed to conduct the JMET this year, there hasn't been any official notification from their end. But its website already states that "only students with a CAT score will be eligible to apply".
An official from
IIT-B said, "The decision was taken in order to reduce the burden of multiple tests on students. CAT is a well-established qualifying exam for management aspirants. So, IITs being autonomous have decided to consider CAT scores for our admissions too." IIT-Madras has already put up the eligibility criteria on their website which states that performance in CAT, GD and personal interviews, previous academic qualification and work experience, if any, will be considered for the selection process.
There have also been speculations that
XAT maybe scrapped in favour of CAT. This is definitely good news for students who are already burdened with a slew of management entrance tests.
