Now explore management beyond the IIMs!

Working religiously for several continuous days, battling the exam jitters, and at last surviving the exam, sounds hell lot of struggle. It indeed is. Then amidst the wait for the exam results, there are some nervous prayers, nail-biting episodes and a never ending confusion. Such is the fierce pressure created around one of the most sought-after management entrance examinations, Common Admission Test (CAT).

It is a dream for almost each CAT aspirant to be able to study at one of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). The competition of scoring the best percentile and faring well at the other rounds such as the Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion and Personal Interview (PI) is cut throat.

However, while the IIMs hold a strong position within the B-School category, there are many other institutions that provide quality and internationally accredited education.

Many B-Schools like FMS, Delhi; MDI, Gurgaon; XLRI, Jamshedpur; SP Jain, Mumbai; NITIE, Mumbai; TISS, Mumbai; IIFT, Delhi are arguably as good as the IIMs. B-schools like the IITs; IRMA, Anand; the Symbiosis B-school; Narsee Monjee, Mumbai; IMT, Ghaziabad; FORE; LBS, etc. are also known for imparting quality and global education.

Before securing admission into these prestigious B-Schools, the students have to pass a written entrance examination which is usually conducted by education regulators like University Grants Commission (UGC) and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

These written exams are followed by the other rounds as preferred and conducted by the respective institutes. These tests are extremely crucial as they determine a student’s ability to perform managerial functions. They also test the student’s maturity level and the capacity to work under pressure.

So MBA aspirants can work for other competitive entrance examinations like XAT, SNAP, CMAT and MAT. Or Institute specific exams such as NMAT, TISSNET, IRMA, and IIFT. To simplify, XLRI Jamshedpur uses XAT, SIBM Pune uses SNAP, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies uses NMAT etc.

Hence, not making it to any one of the IIMs does not mean the end of the road to management for you. It could mean that you need to take glance at the other decent enough options and still make a mark in your chosen career with extra grit put into your efforts. So, increase your knowledge on B-schools and hence, increase your options!
