With just a couple of weeks left to start the admission process for PhD courses, the
Osmania University, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh is yet to declare the cut off marks for the eligibility test. With the students vociferously demanding to reduce the cut off marks, the University authorities are still undecided whether to continue with the existing cut off marks or to accept the students' demand.
Speaking to Express, OU Registrar Prof E Suresh Kumar said that the admission process will begin only after the row over cut off marks is solved. "We have already prepared the list of vacant seats in various departments and the admission schedule will be announced in a couple of weeks," he added.
In 2014, the university had fixed the cut off marks for research courses as, 50 marks for General category, 45 marks for Backward Caste (BC) and 40 marks for Schedule Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) students. However, soon after the results were announced, there was a spate of complaints and students demanded to reduce the cut-off marks by five marks for each category.
Insisting on the implementation of previous guidelines on cut-off marks, the students appealed to the university authorities to keep the minimum score at 40 marks for general category, 35 for BC and 30 for SC, ST categories. As the university took almost an year to conduct eligibility test, the students said, their preparation was affected due to this long delay.
