Revising the existing examination structure of under-graduate courses, Panjab University (PU) has decided to implement uniform passing parks in BA,B. Sc, B. Com, BCA and BBA courses in colleges affiliated with the university. The university has decided to revamp the existing structure under which a student had to secure different passing marks in different semester of the same course.

The issue came to light when the varsity announced the results of B. Com first and second semesters on the basis of the existing pattern of passing marks. As per the existing framework, a student had to secure 35% marks to pass each examination in the first semester while the passing percentage was 40% in the second semester.

 

A committee was constituted under the Dean university instructions (DUI) prof AK Bhandari to review the ongoing semester system at the under-graduate level. The committee recommended the implementation of uniformity in the regulations and passing marks of each course. Member of the committee, senator Dalip Kuma, said there should be uniformity in regulation of all the undergraduate courses - BA, BSc, BCom, BBA and BCA and that there should be no difference in the passing marks. Another member of the committee, senator Kuldeep Singh, said any disparity in the passing criteria might land the varsity in legal complications and could also affect the overall percentage of a student.
