The Orissa Engineering College (OEC) conducted a pre placement training session for its students to prepare the students from a campus point of view and to be able to face the corporate world with the right competencies. This session helped in encouraging students as it resulted in the high success rate of the students in different campus placements drive interviews.

Such activities prior to the placement drive help to bridge the gap between the industry requirements and what the students have to offer. Companies look for varied and specific qualities in terms of personality traits as well as technical skills in a candidate. Training and exposure to requirements keeping in mind the present industry trends help the student to deliver better.

The training carried out at Orissa Engineering College was divided into three categories:

• Technical- Technical proficiency in subjects related to engineering and computer science was given prime importance.
• Aptitude- Focus on preparing students for written examinations that are conducted as a part of the recruitment process. It helps enlarge logical and reasoning capacities of a student.
• Soft Skills- Communication plays the biggest role in any organization. Training students to enhance their communication skills to prepare them to face group discussions, interviews etc in a corporate culture was also taken care of during the session.

Competition is immense in today’s world. Industries demand high quality human resources to be able to deliver in a desirable manner. The efforts made to offer tailor made training programmes to students help the hiring companies to have a competitive advantage.
