Presidency University will spend Rs. 50 crore for renovation and restoration of its heritage campus apart from creating new assets.
Vice-Chancellor of Presidency University, Anuradha Lohia said, “The West Bengal government has given Rs 50 crore to renovate the heritage campus.
The existing laboratories, buildings, pathways and common spaces will also be revamped in tune with the Heritage Commission.”
She added that a few new assets like exhibition and museum places, modernization of laboratories and an open-air amphitheatre will also come up.
The University was founded with the expressed intention of providing modern education to the Indian students. Presidency College, Kolkata is one of the affiliated colleges and a co-founding college of the University of Calcutta.
This is being done as a part of the bicentenary celebration from January 2020. There will be lectures from Nobel laureates, a heritage walk, a literary festival and a global education summit.
The formal inauguration of the celebrations will be done by West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on January 6th evening at the riverside Princep Ghat.
The closing ceremony would be in December 2020, and she said that the Rajarhat campus was likely to be inaugurated then.
